It seems that in today’s largely subjective world of art, many artists lack the academic skills required to open their work up to limitless possibilities. Oftentimes, frustrated young artists attempt to express themselves early on before they have mastered the craft in which they have chosen to work. In so doing, they create boundaries that, ironically, permanently hinder their freedom of expression. “My goal is to eliminate these boundaries by building a strong academic foundation through classical training and practice using time tested methods and techniques, which a student can then apply toward his (her) own personal expression.” -Jeff Hein

As a full time artist Jeff Hein has shown throughout the USA, Europe and Asia. He is currently represented by Wendt Gallery in NYC, Laguna Beach, Singapore, and Vienna. In 2006, Hein decided to open the Hein Academy of Art out of his Salt Lake City, Utah, studio in order to share what he has come to believe to be the core principals of painting and drawing. As one who believes traditional drawing and painting skills to be the root of creative freedom, Hein only works from Life or imagination in his own work, always striving to better exercise his technical skills, and tries to instill the same ideals into his students. The Hein Academy of art is a small school of only 11 students that has become a positive and uplifting environment which is accepting of all artists, genres and styles while remaining endlessly devoted to learning and mastering the fundamentals of painting and drawing.
